Merseyside Police can confirm there is a planned protest by Extinction Rebellion in Liverpool city centre on Saturday, 31 August.

The force has been liaising with the protest organisers and contingency plans are in place to ensure we are able to deal effectively and efficiently with every eventuality to ensure that residents and visitors to the city can carry on with their normal business.

There are a number of events in the city centre at the weekend and we would advise members of the public who are coming in to Liverpool on Saturday to plan ahead and given themselves plenty of time to get in and home.

Members of the public who use public transport are asked to keep up-to-date with travel information via @merseytravel.

Another barmy ill thought protest for a noble cause, it would be better to ignore them as the pollution caused by their disruption is bad for the lungs of young residents.

Why don't they all go over to Brazil and protest about the burning of the Amazon rain forest or to quite a few other countries who do not seem to bothered about how much pollution they pour into the atmosphere. At least this country seems to be aware of the threat and is taking steps to do something about it.

Because it’s a global movement campaigning against a global threat.
